ARiC Insulation manufactures densified wood sheets and precision-machined densified wood components from our facility in Maharashtra, India since 1969. Supplied to transformer manufacturers and electrical panel builders across India, our densified wood products conform to IS 1891 and are available in standard sheet sizes or custom-machined to your exact drawing.
Densified wood — also known as compressed wood, Permali, or Permawood — is a high-density engineering material produced by impregnating selected hardwood veneers with synthetic resin under heat and high pressure. The compression process dramatically increases the wood's density, mechanical strength, and resistance to moisture and electrical tracking compared to natural timber.
The result is a dimensionally stable, high-strength insulating material with excellent machinability — making it the preferred choice for transformer coil formers, distance pieces, support blocks, and electrical panel components where both mechanical performance and dielectric properties are required.

ARiC Insulation supplies densified wood in two forms — standard sheets for customers who cut and machine components themselves, and precision-machined components for customers who require finished parts ready for assembly:
Densified wood is used across two primary application areas:
| Application Area | Specific Use |
|---|---|
| Transformer insulation | Coil formers, distance pieces between winding layers, support blocks, key spacers, and structural components within oil-type power and distribution transformers. Preferred over pressboard where higher compressive strength is required. |
| Electrical panels | Insulating support blocks, mounting platforms, and structural insulation components within LT switchgear panels, bus duct assemblies, and electrical enclosures where both mechanical strength and electrical insulation are needed. |
| Custom machined parts | Any application requiring a high-strength, dimensionally stable, machinable insulating material — densified wood is a cost-effective alternative to epoxy glass laminates for moderate dielectric strength requirements. |
Pressboard is a cellulose-based material made from wood pulp, primarily used for electrical insulation in oil-type transformers. Densified wood is made from compressed wood veneers and offers significantly higher mechanical strength — making it the preferred choice where compressive load-bearing performance is required alongside electrical insulation. Both are used in transformer construction and we manufacture both.
Yes. Permali and Permawood are trade names for densified laminated wood — the same material manufactured under different brand names. The generic term is densified wood or compressed wood, and all conform to IS 1891. Our material meets the same specification regardless of the brand name your design specifies.
Yes. We CNC machine densified wood blocks, distance pieces, coil formers, and custom profiles to your exact drawing. Share your specification and our team will provide a quote with lead time.
Yes. Densified wood is compatible with mineral transformer oil and is widely used as a structural insulating material inside oil-cooled distribution and power transformers.
Standard thickness range is 6mm to 100mm. Custom thicknesses outside this range are available on request. Sheets can also be supplied cut to size to reduce in-house waste and machining time.
